Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority’s (GMDA) revised plan for the revamp/upgradation of Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) , will provide a big connectivity and mobility boost to real estate in South of Gurgaon and New Gurgaon along NH8.
The plan regarding the upgradation of SPR involves the construction of eight flyovers on the stretch from Ghata T Point to NH8,, besides an underpass at Vatika Chowk , to be constructed by NHAI to fast track traffic along the SPR stretch. This is an improvement over the April 2021 plan , approved by the Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar. This plan to develop SPR as a model road, involved construction of 5 flyovers between Ghata T Point & Vatika Chowk at crucial crossings of Sector 56-57 and 61-62, Sector 50-57 and 62-65, Sector 49-50 & 65-66, besides an underpass between Ghata Chowk and Delhi-Jaipur highway via Vatika Chowk. . The DPR of this plan was even approved by the Haryana Chief Minister.
While the earlier SPR upgradation plan involved revamping of just about 6km of SPR stretch known as Golf Course Road Extension Road (GCER), the revised plan includes the entire stretch of SPR up to NH8, stretching 13 kms. Under the amended plan, Five out of the total eight flyovers will be built as per the original plan at Golf Course Road T Point, Kadarpur Intersection , Pioneer Park Traffic signal., intersection near Splendor Tower and the St Xavier ‘s High school intersection. The remaining three flyovers will come up at Tulip Chowk Andour Heights Road Intersection and the point where the road dividing sectors 75 and 75 A intersects with the one dividing sectors 74 and 74A. The underpass at Vatika Chowk will be built below the six-lane Sohna elevated road, connecting both sides of SPR across Vatika Chowk. The underpass will be bidirectional, with no link to the Six-lane Sohna Road.
The Vatika Chowk underpass as part of the Sohna Road revamp , should be ready in a year’s time The entire SPR upgradation project may well take two and a half years to complete. The construction of the project, having 8 flyovers, is likely to start in the next few weeks. The SPR, touted as the next big destination of Gurgaon , has already emerged as an integrated development hub , with a mix of residential, commercial and retail projects. Thousands of premium lifestyle residential units have either already come up or are under construction along the SPR, with leading developers engaged in their development.
SPR assumes great significance from the connectivity point of view. Traffic from Cyber Hub, MG Road. via Golf Course Road reaches SPR while Old Gurgaon traffic reaches SPR via Sohna Road. The traffic from Faridabad uses SPR to directly reach Delhi- Jaipur highway. As such the upgradation/revamp of SPR along with the six-laning of Sohna Road, will provide a major connectivity and mobility boost to not just South of Gurgaon but the entire New Gurgaon.
