With its recent notification to the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) to ensure underground laying of entire electricity network up to the level of 33kv , the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has set out its roadmap for smooth and uninterrupted power supply in Gurugram.
The GMDA notification pertains to old parts of the city (Sector 1-57) and New Gurgaon ( Sector 58- 115) apart from ensuring underground laying of cables and other infrastructure, also directs to follow a set of guidelines for setting up a new network or aligning existing ones. The work on Rs 1600 crore smart grid project is gaining momentum. In July, 10 underground feeders supplying power to Palam Vihar, Sectors 1-23 and sectors 30-31 and 40-45 were made operational.
In all 600 underground feeders are to be commissioned under different phases.

Currently due to lack of power infrastructure , hundred thousands of residents in New Gurugram are depending on costly generator power that also leads to pollution. The smart grid project will check outages due to cable faults, ensuring smooth , uninterrupted power supply , om turm improving the quality of life”.
