The recent decision of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to cancel the contract of the Essel Infra Projects due to stalling of work for the 12- laning of Delhi- Panipat 12 laning of NH-44 and awarding the work to a new company will pave the way for connectivity push to NCR realty.
The contract for this Rs2128.72 crore project for the widening of GT Road national highway from Mukarba Chowk to Panipat was given to Essel Infra Projects under PPP mode in 2015. The work on the 70 km long highway involved 29 small bridges, 10 flyovers, 10 underpasses ,
11 foot over bridges was supposed to be completed in April last year . However due to the non payment to subcontractors, the work has been
stalled for the last one and a half years. As a result of this, till
now only 44% work has been completed. Now the pending work will be shortly restarted either by the NHAI itself or by the new contractor.
Says Pradeep Aggarwal, Chairman, Assocham National Council on Real
Estate, Housing & Urban Development and Founder & Chairman, Signature Global, ” This is a positive development. The 12-laning of Delhi- Panipat highway assumes great significance from the point of view of connectivity boost to NCR real estate. The mobility boost by reducing travelling time, will especially boost affordable housing in Kundli(Sonepat), Panipat and Karnal”.
