The foundation stone for the Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Corridor in Ghaziabad was recently laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which will pass through one of the most densely populated areas of Delhi NCR and will connect Delhi to Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Corridor aims at providing a fast, convenient and pollution-free transit system thereby connecting Delhi and the regional nodes of the NCR, as a result of which the journey from Delhi to Meerut will take not more than 60 minutes.
Once the services of the Rapid Rail begin, it’ll run at an operational speed of 160 kmph and an average speed of 100 kmph. The RRTS will be available at a frequency of every 5-10 minutes. A total of 22 RRTS stations on the corridor on both, elevated and underground sections will be available and the travel time of the journey is expected to be 55 minutes. Accoutred with modern facilities like CCTV surveillance, mobile/laptop charging points and luggage space, the RRTS trains will have a total of nine coaches. There will also have a special seating arrangement for the differently-abled or those with special needs along with a business class coach and ladies coach in every train. With the commencement of the RRTS, one lakh vehicles will take off from the roads thereby decreasing the congestion and pollution.
