Mission Revamped : ‘Housing for All 2020’

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) program launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation in Mission mode envisions provision of Housing for All by 2022. The mission prescribes certain mandatory reforms for easing up the urban land market for housing to make adequate urban land available for affordable housing.

As per the recent report in NAREDCO Event-“Housing for All”, it is stated that Government is set to achieve the target of providing housing for all in 2020 itself, two years before it stated deadline of 2022. Under the PMAY (urban), till 24 lakhs houses have been handed over to beneficiaries and hoping this number of houses reached to 50 lakhs. Earlier Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry had decided to build one crore houses by 2022 with already sanctioned around of 84 lakh houses. Now adding to this, there is also a receiving of additional assessment demand of 12 lakh more houses, so there is a chance of completing this Housing for All mission 2022 by 2020.

Mr. Pradeep Aggarwal, Chairman – ASSOCHAM National Council on Real Estate, Housing and Urban Development, Founder and Chairman – Signature Global India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Because of this revised mission of Housing for All by 2020 now, it gives boost to the Affordable Housing segment of Indian Real Estate sector which helps us in providing more affordable housing projects to our customers and hence we are here to launch more affordable projects.”
